Our Curriculum

Our Curriculum is an Inquiry Based Curriculum. It is thematic and subjects/topics are delivered via Learning Centres. For Nursery 1 and Nursery 2, 70% of the curriculum is delivered in Chinese and 30% in English. BRMCK Nursery classes are staffed by 2 Chinese Language teachers and 1 English Language teacher or 3 Chinese language teachers and 1 English language teacher. For Nursery classes with 3 Chinese Language teachers, please note that the Chinese Language teachers will be the form teachers of these classes while the English Language teacher will be responsible solely for the delivery of the English Language lesson in these classes. For Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2, 50% of the curriculum is delivered in Chinese and 50% in English. There are 2 teachers; the Chinese Language teacher and the English Language teacher in every K1 and K2 class.

After careful study of the specific developmental needs of BRMCK students and inspired by pedagogical concepts in inquiry based programmes; our principal Ms. Leong Sau Ling designed and wrote this curriculum to cater to the specific needs of BRMCK students.

This curriculum was put together after much research, student observation and consultation with BRMCK teachers and parents.

BRMCK implemented this curriculum as soon as the first batch of BRMCK teachers completed their training in January 2007. Ms. Leong continues to provide training and guidance to BRMCK teachers today. Our Heads of Department/Level Coordinators assist Ms. Leong in quality management and teacher induction.

The BRMCK curriculum is a comprehensive approach to learning where the natural curiosity of young minds are stimulated as children are guided to take an active role in their own educational process by asking focused questions and exploring their environment to find answers to these questions. Attitudes and concepts are explored through the integrated studies of familiar themes.

The BRMCK programme places emphasis on the following transdisciplinary skills and attitudes to promote maximum development of learning outcomes in students:
Transdisciplinary Skills:
. Thinking Skills
. Research Skills
. Social Skills
. Communication Skills
. Self Management Skills
Attitudes We Endeavour to Nurture in Our Students:
We used Galations 5:22-25 as our guide.
"But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control....Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." Galatians 5:22-25.
Our curriculum is organized into various thematic topics of interest which reflect global concepts. Daily activities are integrated into these topics to make them more meaningful and easier to grasp for young children. Topics chosen are engaging, relevant, challenging and developmentally appropriate for young children. Each unit is introduced through the inquiry method and delivered through 'Learning Centres' as children are guided to ask focused questions, make observations and share their findings and feelings.
Learning Centres:
A Learning Centre is an area in the classroom with hands-on activities or materials designed to teach a specific skill or concept. Children visit the centres individually or in small groups to work on the chosen activity. Learning Centres are excellent for facilitating hands-on inquiry based learning in young children.
Moral Education:
Our moral education curriculum is tied closely with the attitudes we endeavor to nurture in our students. Please refer to ‘Attitudes We Endeavour to Nurture in Our Students’.

As we are a church based preschool, Our moral education curriculum is based on teachings and principles in the Christian Bible.

Daily assemblies / devotions at the start and end of each school day is part of our curriculum which
all BRMCK students participate in.

This is but a sample time table. Individual Class Schedules serve more as a guide than a rule. Teachers are expected to work creatively within the boundaries of their time table guides to effectively deliver the BRMCK curriculum.

BRMCK does not give out fixed time tables to parents as preschool education in BRMCK is not rigid or inflexible but filled with fluid, spontaneous creativity.

Although activities are similar for all classes, they may not be carried out at the specific times slots / days shown below.

Please note that Nursery One students end the programme 15 minutes earlier.

Before / After School Montessori Based Enrichment Classes

This is an optional before / after school enrichment programme for BRMCK students.

This before / after School Montessori based enrichment programme was set up in response to repeated appeals by our BRMCK parents who desire the best of both disciplines for their children.

Our principal, Ms. Leong Sau Ling conducted a study on the specific enrichment needs of our BRMCK students. Based on these needs, she drafted a comprehensive before / after school bilingual Montessori based enrichment curriculum.

Please be informed that although we use Montessori self-corrective teaching apparatus in our enrichment programme, this enrichment programme is strictly a Montessori based, inspired curriculum in that selected ideas from Montessori pedagogy and philosophy have been adapted as a foundation guide for a before / after school enrichment programme designed specially to complement the BRMCK mainstream curriculum.

Our first Before / After School Montessori Based Enrichment Class commenced in 2008.

Although most of our Montessori based enrichment programme teachers are qualified Montessori directresses, they receive additional training from Ms. Leong and our Montessori enrichment H.O.D. to deliver our BRMCK version of a Montessori based enrichment programme. Our Head of Department and Senior Directresses assist our principal in quality management and teacher induction.

Both BRMCK Mainstream teachers and Montessori Based Enrichment Directresses are committed to work closely together to bring out the best in our students.

Registration: Only existing and / or confirmed BRMCK mainstream students are eligible to apply. Vacancies are offered on a first come first serve basis. BRMCK Rules and Regulations apply.
